Autism South Africa (A;SA) aspires to achieving a society in which persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) enjoy all the rights and opportunities to meet their needs and fulfill their potentials, throughout their lives, as loved and valued members of their families and communities
Autism South Africa focuses on Parent Empowerment, Advocacy, Lobbying and Training.
Our parent empowerment includes training, as well support via phone, email or face-to-face support for the parents.
When advocating, we try build power from the base focussing on parents to become advocates not just for their children, but for their own communities as well. Advocacy for us also means influencing top level legislators through education to try and ensure that the rights of the autistic community are met. For us, this also includes supporting those who would like to become self-advocates. Lobbying, is the next step in our advocacy, this is where we try to ensure that there are changes made in policy to help people with autism, as well as to make changes in other organisations, specifically where autism has been ignored. And, lastly, we offer training services – these services are open to all who have an interest in autism, and ranges from very basic one day courses to a full five day course.
